Screensavers
Places from the worlds, drawn live in signal. No video, no loop. Each one is drawn live, frame by frame, for as long as you leave it on. Open one, go full screen, and let it run.
Best on a wide screen.
Each scene starts from a painted picture: a sky, a skyline, the face of a planet, open water. The aquarium adds its larger animals, each painted once. The page reads it and redraws it live, one glyph per cell, each cell sized by its light and tinted with its own colour. Everything that moves is written on the spot from a small set of rules. The still things are built once. Only the part that lives, the water, the traffic, the lanterns, the orbit, is redrawn each frame. A soft bloom sits on top so the bright cells glow into each other.
The method is old. People have drawn with characters since the terminal days, and plenty still do. The scenes are ours.
Notes for a screen that stays on: full screen hides the bar · the scene pauses in a background tab · reduced motion holds one frame · a few pictures load, the page does the rest
